Iowa's Driver License


Durable card with security over-lay and 1D and 2D barcodes on back. May have red "VETERAN" designation. As of 1/15/13, licenses issued to temporary foreign nationals have "LIMITED-TERM" at top center. For CDL, white "COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE" in green type bar.

Minor's license[edit]

Vertical format; "UNDER 21 UNTIL (date)" in red bar at top right of photo.


Director's signature and station number overlap photo; ghost image. Capitol dome and "IOWA" (appears twice) in overlay; state seal visible under UV light (see page 72); microprinting. Newest issues have holder's sig-nature in raised print. Back has holder's birth date at lower right; holder's name, birth date, and ghost image visible under UV light.


3 digits, 2 letters, and 4 digits.


As of January 1, 2014, 5, 6, 7, or 8 years, expiring on birthday with 60-day grace period. Previously up to 5 years, expiring on birthday with 60-day grace period. Licenses of temporary foreign nationals limited to period of authorized stay in U.S., 2 years maximum.
